The over 50's

I believe the age at which you receive the test kit automatically is dropping to 50 over the next couple of years.

Scotland is already there. I got mine a few days after my 50th. Came in the post with over 50s retirement plan info and a funeral plan brochure.

I got my second set in the post a couple of months ago. It’s like some kind of cruel countdown to death. Happy birthday, here’s a poo stick. Let’s see if you’ll live to see another :grinning:

I guess there’s so few over 50s in Scotland that they can afford to test those who’ve not passed on from drug and alcohol abuse at a younger age

It’s my birthday in about 8 weeks, maybe I’ll get a present off the GP :grimacing:

On a more serious note, I did mine fairly recently. The NW was aiming to have covered everyone before they hit 60, I was either just before or after my 58th birthday.

A friend who’s a year older got called for an endoscope after his :poop:
Afterwards he heard the medic say something like "… another neagtive, guess we need to dial back the sensitivity … "

I’ve been doing the shit on a stick test for a few years. Last test threw up a positive for blood so ended up having a colonoscopy in Feb 22 and 4 small polyps removed but nothing worse than that. Having had one colonoscopy I won’t get any more shit tests but have to have 3 yearly colonoscopies - deep joy!

But better safe than sorry

I started one of these with the guy looking for a “ 6 cm mass” I’m a veggie so he said I had “more seeds than a budgies cage” but could see ok!
There was nothing there … phew.

Did the stick thing too, after recent events with two work colleagues dying very quickly ( Adam the younger one with the Tesla passed last Tuesday afternoon RIP) I’m taking my health very seriously, as most of us do already.

At my old place we used to get a full medical for senior managers every 3 years. That included testing for everything (including the poo test) and an exercise ECG. My last one was in 2019 and they never got round to restarting them after Covid.

I think they were used to testing unfit executives for the exercise ECG. The ramp test on the bike started at 70W, going up by 30W every 2 minutes. I think we both got bored and the test was stopped a lot earlier than would have been the case for a proper VO2 max test

And you were obviously wearing your Ironman branded t-shirt and calf guards, while doing it? :grinning:

I would take this as a challenge to get to 20mins

70+ 9*30 = 340W, tipping to 370W for the 21st and 22nd minutes? I reckon you’d nail this for sure & then start over, and then go for a 50 mile run.

I had one of those pointless birthdays yesterday that stubbornly refuse to bump me up to another AG :grinning:.

I must be difficult to buy for as I received not one, but two fucking shoe horns…& this card from my brother .
