The over 50's

Had my first counselling session today.

Inbetween discussing my frailties, mental health issues and were I’m basically at with my life right now …. I think Lisa was quite surprised that I mentioned an obscure triathlon website as one of my “ key elements of support!”

It’s a strange world

If she could start prescribing TriTalk to her patients that would assure the future of the forum :rofl:

Niche rather than obscure sounds more us no?

Most people on

Facebook
Most endurance based websites

Have never heard of tri talk, with 200? Less? More? Active members it’s no surprise I guess.

I’m always glad that it never became really big as that would have ruined its appeal a touch for me.

Niche is probably better. I could have gone weird but didn’t want to offend all the obscure people on it.

It was really big upto about 2012, but that caused many problems but it was still generally supportive (hence the number of meetups back in the day)

Kit helped also, IMUK was TT & Pirate controlled, think wrestlers but Cleo and her PomPoms plus countless others!

I was on here then.

IMJ has 5 thousand members, maybe more now.

Only ever seen one tri talk kit in a race, I’m glad it is as is now.

A friend of mine has a tritalk cycle jersey. He can’t swim or run. I’ve no idea where how or why he has it. I’ll ask him and grab a photo sometime and we can check its vintage,

there was some great banter between the 2 factions back in the day. Vitruvian was one event you could guarantee a good turnout of both. And then the RW v TT match at Toughguy in 2005 was fun.

I still have a TT cycle top, although it’s in the ‘not in use but not ready to throw out’ drawer.
Still use the Tess base layers all the time and have some of the thin Lewiskit cycling socks somewhere.

I kept out of the PlanetX discussion recently as I drifted away from TT Mk1 at that point as I felt the forum was losing it’s objectivity. Also, the same questions were being asked again and again.

I guess I see this forum as more like a WhatsApp group with occasional triathlon discussion

Its quite inactive now compared to before my ban  i went on the other day and 90% of posts are from “coaches” .

I had the old Lewis kit tri suit. I’m pretty sure it’s in Oz somewhere because a while back a mate in Melbourne was organising a tri to help a charity he was working with and was looking for kit donations.

I’m sure I sent that top and an old watch.

Yes lots of that, got approached on there a few times myself, some real good advice and people just after your cash who seemed to know less than SFA.

The hyrox sites are similar.

This is what appeals to me about this forum. Some triathlon talk but plenty of stuff for us old folk to also chew the fat over - like gardening, cooking, mortgages and holidays.

And generally sensible replies and the odd bit of humour.

I really enjoy seeing what people are doing and the helpful replies and advice on things.

Don’t mind the sandbagging either :joy:

I’d argue it’s generally humourous replies and the odd bit of sense

Odd humour is all I have to offer.

Was it Tritalk V1.0 who used to turn up at Vitruvian, and IIRC the Ballbuster Duathlon in grass skirts?

Back in the day I remember as a newbie plumping to immerse myself in TT rather than RW/Pirates, been here ever since. Oddly felt like a choice, like picking which school gang to be in. :-), can;t really remember why I made the call though (but, on reflection, it was a great call)

I was the other way around - joined TT when it started but never got into it as I suppose by then I was well ensconced in the RW forum. no regrets - was what it was and at least one of the triathlon forums is still going|!
