I had a moment of panic last Monday morning when I couldn’t remember my UK work password, unused for a year. Knew it had to have a mix of upper and lower case letters, a number, a special character…
Fortunately it came back to me, as did my 6 digit Smart card PIN. Buried in there somewhere I guess
There’s a lot of scaremongering going on in the media ATM about what they’ll do with pensions, but like motoring it’s a very sensitive subject.
Until the review is complete I’m trying not to follow the clickbait or worry too much. In the same way they keep saying state pension will be means tested, that’s less of an issue for someone who is 20 but for others it causes problems.
There’s definitely lots of clickbait articles about pensions and inheritance tax. The most novel I’ve seen suggested that Labour would make death a chargeable event for capital gains tax, so if someone dies and leaves an investment property there would be a CGT amount payable on the gain since it was purchased and then inheritance tax on anything that was left
I’ve got a free subscription to the Telegraph for a couple of months, it’s been quite entertaining how similar it is to the Gaurdian*, just speaking to a different segment of society (tax stories very much to the fore).
Ultimately, it’s left me even more disillusioned though - both papers write what their audience want to hear and if the truth has to be discarded somewhat for that to happen, so be it.
read that when it first appeared in the Grauniad. I can understand where she’s coming from. After a lifetime - well feels like it! - of being competitive in sports (team and personal) and chasing a high level of fitness, I now don’t worry that I’ve missed some “keeping fit” session and am comfy in my torpitude. I keep ticking over but no longer chase goals (apart from the odd Concept challenge on the rower or skier).
