The Sleep Thread

The middle of the day has been a struggle getting over the jetlag and being hungry in the middle of the night!

I had one of those sleeps last night where you fall straight to sleep and wake up in exactly the same position havent not moved at all all night, 7.5 hours of solid sleep.

Still feel like shit because Im ill but a sloid night of zeds. Being reading books more before lying down and I think that is really helping rather than jumping straight into bed and trying to sleep

Last night had a procession of bad dreams that made me wake in a panic. The last one was bizzare, for two reasons. One the content of the dream, but also I was aware that I was dreaming.

Basically I was moving out of a house and I had to disable the burglar alarm. That involved using a huge ladder to climb really high to where there was a lamp, unscrew the lamp and flick a switch. Of course the ladder fell and I was left dangling. But I was fairly sure it was a dream and I though if I drop I will wake up. So decided to let go and woke up with HR in Zone 5. Fucking horrible.

probably right place to post this - we ordered a new mattress today.

Love a new mattress. Being the massive unit I am I go through them quickly. I read a piece by the sleep consultant Team Sky used and he said to buy cheaper mattresses (not cheap, but dont go for Uber expensive ones) and replace them often. We have been replacing ours after about 3 years and I notice the difference a lot.

After about 18 months my side as a noticeable dent in it

This last week I’ve been listening to a few of the George Groves podcasts. This one on sleep was an easy listen.

fwiw, we bought an Eve mattress (the company who went bust at the end of last year but got rescued by Benson Beds). 40% off but still over £500.

Mrs FB did a load of research into what’s best to buy and this Eve one came top of a Which survey. Has a 1 year trial period so if we don’t like it we can chop it in for something else.

We have a Bruno one at the mo and wanted another but the German company are no longer supplying to the UK. #EffingBrexit

Got less than 3hrs last night and now I’m off to Screwfix to get stuff for the kitchen sanding which I forgot to get yesterday when I was already there getting something else. :man_facepalming:

November was also good, then interrupted by sickness and then life stress, I think I’m back on track to average over 7h:

My inner alarm clock is now set at 4:40 am. Late or early to bed. Alcohol or none the last 10 days are the same, I seem to wake at the same time.
The problem is that I cannot train at that time in the morning as I will wake the rest of the house closing doors etc.

Woke up about 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep properly. Need all the coffee now.

Thankfully my calendar is empty this afternoon so will have a cheeky nap later

Good luck! I have about 6 coffees a day at the moment .

Nearly 8 hours of sleep for me last night, I feel I’m making good progress in getting better sleep.

I was sleeping really well a few weeks ago, not sure if I was fighting the lurgy at the time.

Then the last few weeks, particularly on week days I’ve regularly been waking up at about 5am :rage: then struggle to get back to sleep.

Was pretty hectic at work for a couple of weeks so that definitely didn’t help but the last week or so haven’t been too bad.

So, pretty tired today and a pretty painful morning hasn’t helped

Clock change?

Early sun will start affecting me and the cat earlier and earlier. Will need to lights off by ten to keep up.

I did consider that but thought I’d have got used to it now.

Also not sure about the 2 late nights at the weekend as it did throw my usual schedule out.

Appalling night last night and the previous couple weren’t great. Just couldn’t switch off, then woke up about 4:40 and that was that :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Even tried going downstairs on the sofa! Also failed

Today won’t be very productive!

I bought a new orthopaedic pillow & tried it out last night.

Back in pieces today. Was it the pillow? Pilates last night? Just my shitty glass back?

Hoping it eases as I’m on tugging duty tomorrow.
