The Sleep Thread

Wednesday night is club chaingang, I’m on the back holding on for dear life & usually don’t make it round so it’s ride to failure. Wednesday night is a guaranteed crap sleep as the leg is buzzing away & just very restless.

Googled sleep problems after tough training sessions & just get crap about body temperature, there is definitely a gap here for someone to study.

When I used to play 5 a side with some late games I had the same, maybe the adrenaline is still elevated from the effort levels or something :man_shrugging:t2:

Yeah i can never sleep after a tough evening session.

Sweet spot is normally my max effort in the evenings. Used to do two weekly training rides at and above threshold and getting to sleep was an issue. Having said that, the Tuesday club swims I normally do finish at ten and cause a bit of an issue getting to bed before twelve.

yep used to swim a 9 - 10 masters session and never slept after, sitting watching crap TV at 1am like it was still 8pm

Does anyone wear a sleep mask and if so can they recommend one? Ive seen some fancy ones with inbuild headphones to has music etc to drift off to. I sleep on my side so they mught annoying.

My current house has large windows and my bed is right next to them. Ive got thick curtains and blackout blinds but the light still pours round them and Im constantly waking up at 4.30am and struggling to get back to sleep.

The masks look like they will be really annoying, but then I thought that about wearing a watch to bed and now I dont notice it.

I usually wear one, especially at this time of year. It doesn’t have earphones or anything but I used sponge earplugs especially when I’m away as I’m a light sleeper.

The more expensive ones are softer and go for wider elastic as it’s likely to be more comfortable. The usual one I’ve got has more padding around the eyes so it’s recessed to stop it pushing on your eyelids.

In contrast the cheap aeroplane one I’ve brought here is pretty annoying.

Not sure about a make though as I think the GF bought it!

Edit: also check if/how you tighten it as that can dig in if it’s where you lay.

I’ve got a couple but find a buff does a better job. I also fall asleep to podcasts & use my Cambridge Audio buds which are universal L & R I just one in & swap it around if I roll to the other side. Would be nice to be able to have something smaller I can lay on but not found anything yet.

I was going to reply try a buff. It’s what I use when camping, especially this time of year when there’s only a couple of hours of darkness.

Sleep last night was zero. I’m not in great shape today as a result! :joy: Funny that.

Was volunteering at an overnight aid station. Managed to get 11k steps between 12-9 without leaving the football club & car park!

Have manged to catch a couple of 1 x hour naps since I got home at 10 ish. But I’m not feeling super cognicant!

It’s like one of those hangover days where I’m counting down to bed time!

Despite nearly 10 hours sleep I’m still wrecked today, feels like I’ve got a hangover and already looking forward to bedtime :joy:

Garmin reckoned quality was only fair though and HR is elevated.

Hopefully get some better nights this week if the room is cool

Something in the air?? I’m whacked despite sleeping like a baby last few nights. Full on at work here right now, summer break season has started so lots of cross-cover & maybe that’s it. Also got up really early a few days ago to do some computer stuff before work (think @APM o’clock) so partly self inflicted.

Decided to give in today and had a nap

Probably feel worse for it later. Hotel is pretty noisy though as a lot of people are probably here for work so are up around 7am slamming doors

So far so good, despite the hot weather & a snoring wife!

That’s great, interested to hear how you go with it.

Have you been going to bed at the same time? Do you notice a difference while you sleep? Is sleep score the quality of the elapsed sleep or quality plus a time factor?

Yes, no change, in bed about 9-9:30 & turn the telly off 10ish.

Not sure on that, pretty much oblivious to anything while asleep?

I assume it factors everything in, I find it well represents how I feel in the morning, I think I could take a pretty good stab at guessing my sleep score in the morning.

My main bother is I just wake too early & still feel tired but once I’ve had 5-6 hours sleep I’m not getting any more. Garmin usually says I’ve not slept for enough time & I’m short on REM sleep.
I’ve felt noticeably fresher over the last few days.

It’s still early though, hope the trend continues.

Barely any today (I’m working nights).
Even catching up on the reappearing politics thread didn’t help send me off.

Have you tried “name that aircraft”

Better not venture in there now, time to set off. Need to go save some lives/give some drunks a safe sleep for the night.
