Training - What Training?!

I’m off running and proper leg work for a week as I had a benign fatty lump removed from my thigh, its been there 25 years but is getting in the way when using a barbell now. Resulting slice is about 2 inches and a fair few stitches so need to go a little careful. Did some adapted stuff in my usual deadlift class, no actual deadlifts obviously. Then gave a 2k ski erg sprint a go. 7:33.8. Very hard not to go out too fast. Makes me realise @Spina’s time is all the more impressive!

No not really. Hunting is extremely controlled here in Germany and is purely done to cull. The hunters are usually out and about at dawn. I will say that I stick to footpaths to avoid any confrontations with boars esp. at this time of year. I’ve only ever seen hunters when they meet to do a big boar/deer cull. I do get quite scared then, all these men with rifles in bright orange vests - which makes me want to wear one too. But they seem to stay away from the trails or where people might be.

do the German hunters put signs up to say that there is a hunt in progress?? French guys do and are usually pretty good at monitoring them although that’s not to say they don’t have accidents with a few people accidentally shot/killed in recent years.

The opening 30 seconds always seem easy then reality soon sets in followed by panic… your 2k would suggest a sub 3:40 for Hyrox 1k

Yes! When a cull is in progress they’ll put up signs. I’ve never seen signs for individual hunting, but then again I’m not jogging on the trails that early either.

From what I can see they put up signs and send out warnings in Italy too - well, I can’t speak for the whole of Italy, but I quite often get messages that certain trails are closed in the Finale Ligure area due to hunts.

Was suffering from decision paralysis, sat on the turbo just staring at the ipad and trying to choose a zwift workout.

Ended up just chucking one on. Blinking ftp intervals in the zwift tri academy. 4 x (4 x 2mins @ftp, 30 secs recovery) with 2 mins recovery in between.

Normally I’d enjoy a session like that, but not with a 95% 10km run in my legs from yesterday! :man_facepalming:t3::joy:

Was ready to bin it off after just the warmup. But stuck with it, and glad I did as I got it all done. Legs are tired now though.

10th swim in 10 days here, and actually for the last couple of days I have felt a little less like a drowning dog.

This afternoon decided just to go for it and bash out a 1500m effort in the pool.

24m14s, pretty pleased/ surprised considering lack of regular swimming over the last 3 years.

About a minute slower than pre-pandemic, but I’m almost wondering if with such easy access to a pool now, whether it might even be possible to match or even better 1500 PB over the coming months- or whether Father Time will have other ideas :older_man:

It’s pretty cool living 50m from an open air pool that is free to use and open 6am to midnight :+1:

To celebrate… I didn’t go for a run. 9/10 :grinning:

Went for a ride on the moto and had a bacon roll at the cafe. Thought about training, so that counts, right?

@Doonhamer following on from comments on Strava. Check out this version of the graph for that session. It’s a thing of beauty.

It’s very pretty graphage.

When you complete them in ERG mode they’re like a technical drawing.

The HR progression is ace as well if you look at teh average figures at the top of each interval. Perfect progression.

That Saris is nice and smooth. I’ll give you that. Just need the legs to match it now!

Have run 6Km treadmill every day this week (Mon-Fri) at 5.00min/Km, nicely back into consistent running, will try to up the distance and add in some incline, tempo and intervals throughout next week. Hopefully a couple of double-training days also to get in some bike (and maybe even some swim!) training.

The winner was the only person to go sub 3:40 at Manchester on the ski erg.

4:00
Would have got you a top 10-15 split, the pro winner actually went slower but they have a harder course to contend with I guess.

Is that the time taken on the machine or for entering and leaving that station?

I’m pretty sure that’s the machine time ?

The “ rox zone time “ for the winner was an extra 3 mins ( this is quick, looking at some of the other peoples splits. )

That Mark Lewis rowed 3:50 ish he is huge and has a near 3 min km in his palmares, it seems to be all about avoiding leg meltdown !

Yeah not much point knocking out a single fast time only to fall apart.

It seems to mess you up quite spectacularly if you go too hard, the two people who over achieved ….
One was fast anyway, one was hoping for 1:40 ( went 1:28) started very slowly and increased the effort as the race went on.

Glasgow this weekend !

Ha ha this is sooooo true. First 5 seconds I was hot then managed to rein it in and had enough for a bit of a sprint for the last 350m
