Training - What Training?!

Got out for a pre-work run from our main HQ this morning. Been meaning to do it for ages, but never been organised enough to get up really early and to plan a route.

Spent some time last night using the Strava route builder to map out a 15km or so run, synced with the watch and that was that. Turned out to be a cracker of a route. There are loads of really great trails almost from the door of the office in all directions. I went up over Burrington Combe (for those that know the area) and the descended to what I think was the start/end of Cheddar Gorge. Went up the top of the north side of the gorge, along there for a bit before turning back for home. Great mixture of flowy trails, quiet country lanes, technical/rocky sections and some open moorland; loads of stiles and gates as well. I think next time I might park nearer to Cheddar and then explore more of the routes on both sides of the gorge.

Ended up going a bit quicker than planned, so ran to the bottom of the road outside work and back up again for one more hill. Ended up with 16.8kms with 432m elevation in 1:19. Gorgeous morning for it.

If you’re where I think you are, that’s called Draycott Sleight.

Scrub that, you’re on the other side. Looks fantastic, would be really interested in the GPX for this. :+1:

The Strava routes is a brilliant feature.

Pictures look great :sunglasses:

Yeah i’d not had it for a while as i wasn’t premium, so used things like plotaroute etc. I also found the Garmin one pretty clunky. I signed back up to Strava prem for this summer as i find it useful to use the segments as benchmarks for ‘proper’ training. The segment and heatmaps type things are really good and it’s pretty user friendly.

Do you all change your running interval sessions when it’s :fire: ? Good idea to switch to time or HR based, instead of pace?

Yeah i probably would run an effort or HR based session instead.

Meh, I just go out and run, intervals suck :joy:

My Garmin now has me at sub 19 for a 5k so clearly it’s working :joy:

5kg jog to the pharmacy :pill::white_check_mark:

A lovely 27° outside, helped out by the warm breeze making it feel even nicer :parasol_on_ground::beach_umbrella::sun_with_face:

Lunchtime Zwift race today. A bit hot in the house but despite yesterdays first run back being really easy, legs are toast. Smalll group in the race meant the pace was fine but I still haven’t got either the timing for a sprint finish nor the power. Finished 4th of 5.

Will try another easy run tomorrow morning and hopefully my legs will start to adjust a bit

for one sinking moment, I thought you had completed your double day by 5.30am.

Aiming for a triple here, sort of. Ran first thing before it got too hot. Off to the pool now. And then a 40km return bike commute lined up for later, which I am slightly apprehensive about :fire:.

Edit, a nice stiff breeze today brought temp down by 5C and the commute was fine

1 hour run for me this morning. Trying to keep HR low on these first few runs back so <110bpm. Just about 10min/mile pace. Have entered an ultra in 2 months so need to get back into running properly.

Which ultra mate?

Had a fairly big weekend out in Swiss land with @Matthew_Spooner doing some TCR recce rides. Having never actually done an proper big long alpine style climbs before it was a bit of baptism of fire! And on the worst climb I was absolutely left for dust :joy: Biggest day was 270km and 5000m, I was utterly broken at the top of the last climb. However after realising I’d now done nearly all of the biggest ones I we’d come across in 2 days I was feeling a bit more confident. 500km and 8600m in 2.5 days.
