I run on the road often but only if cars are passing infrequent and jump on the pavement (check for e-scooters and bikes first) or grass verge when I see one coming.
I generally don’t run on A roads
People that run with their backs to the traffic are insane imo.
As already mentioned there are loads of good reasons to run on the road and not the pavement.
Roots,
pot holes, (pavements are worse than the roads around here)
camber,
dropped kerbs,
ice,
e-scooters doing 15mph plus,
bikes (esp with no lights),
poor led (directional) street lighting,
flooded sections,
puddles,
recessed stop-tap and other pavement furniture.
dogs with leads that are too long for the dog to be controlled
And ironically cars, vans and lorries parked on the pavement blocking it. THAT INCLUDES YOU MR AMAZON VAN MAN
Hadnt done much last week. Felt like going for a run, started off and felt good and just kept going, 28 mins for a 5k which isnt anything special but 4 minutes faster than the last time I tried.
HR monitor was being odd though, started normally, and then jumped to basically max and stayed there for 20 mins
Run club that I organised for work today - week 4 - 4km in circa 25 mins sticking with the new runners. Good to see them enjoying it and also sticking with it.
