Training - What Training?!

I run on the road often but only if cars are passing infrequent and jump on the pavement (check for e-scooters and bikes first) or grass verge when I see one coming.

I generally don’t run on A roads

People that run with their backs to the traffic are insane imo.

As already mentioned there are loads of good reasons to run on the road and not the pavement.

  • Roots,
  • pot holes, (pavements are worse than the roads around here)
  • camber,
  • dropped kerbs,
  • ice,
  • e-scooters doing 15mph plus,
  • bikes (esp with no lights),
  • poor led (directional) street lighting,
  • flooded sections,
  • puddles,
  • recessed stop-tap and other pavement furniture.
  • dogs with leads that are too long for the dog to be controlled
  • And ironically cars, vans and lorries parked on the pavement blocking it. THAT INCLUDES YOU MR AMAZON VAN MAN

I’ve probably forgot some.

Get on the trails ya fools. None of this road running, putting your life in someone else’s hands nonsense.

Own the danger yourself by running in the dark, on your own next to a constantly eroding coastal path. Much better for you!

45 minute spin class for me. Found it hard AF.

30km in two days… feeling a bit sore even though nothing faster than Marathon Pace + 10 seconds (12km worth)

90 minute bike this morning, first in 5 or 6 days, included 60 minutes straight tempo ~85%, so light grind but no overly hard.

Or a dog whose fuckwit owner has been too lazy to train recall. ‘Oh he’s friendly’.

Hadnt done much last week. Felt like going for a run, started off and felt good and just kept going, 28 mins for a 5k which isnt anything special but 4 minutes faster than the last time I tried.

HR monitor was being odd though, started normally, and then jumped to basically max and stayed there for 20 mins

Had the afternoon off so managed a 10K trail run, easy 30 minutes on Zwift later on to get the legs moving.

Glorious on the moors in the sun.

Did a recce of the Llangollen fell race this morning.

They run a shorter one (10miles/1900ft) or you can add a loop on to do the longer one (17miles/3000ft).

I’d intended to do the longer one but things were getting a little parky so I neshed out & did the shorter.

I’m sure by now your '25 dance card is full @tunster but I thought the 2 races might work out well for you & your wife.

A reminder not to get complacent when using wrist HRM:

The treadmill was set to 6.5kph and heart rate was 145!

Eventually dropped to a more realistic number after walking for a bit and restarting…what was basically the slowest jog I could reasonably do.

Still, recovery run :white_check_mark:

He won’t be making the one on the 13th, unless he’s in the form of his life

Not just wrist OHR measurements, my chest HRM was having a fit yesterday.

It had been moistened, but sometimes plays up if I have multiple layers on.

I would definitely have been up for that but doing the SDW50 the day before

Might pinch the route for a weekend run though - thanks for the heads up
