Solid week that. ![]()
Thank you.
Feeling stronger as a result of consecutive weeks building volume.
I signed up to Manchester Marathon, Oct/Nov when easy pace was about 4:55 - 5:05/km less than 122bpm heart rate. I thought maybe 3:12 - 3:18 with a prefect build would be possible.
However, I got a nasty virus around the 18th November that lasted two weeks, then a few days were I okay but followed by another illness that I now think was covid. That took 3 plus weeks to recover from (covid or not.) Suddenly I’d lost 50s per km for the same HR.
So from January its been a steady build. I wasn’t seeing much progress to start but its starting to come, I think. ![]()
6hr 42 this week - not bad considering I missed Monday/Tuesday with the lingering effects of the bug I picked up and still not quite 100% really until today.
The weather was bloody awful today - no way was going to get Mrs T out so went to the gym for a 2 hr HM distance run (bit less for Mrs T) - could bear another hour as probably would have done 30km outside if the weather wasn’t so bad
Yeah… I feel that given my semi recent training history. It can take a while or long while to get back to the normal you. See above post.
I saw that coming and I needed to switch the long run from Sunday to Saturdays to help the taper work. This weekend was a good weekend to do it. Terrible today after around 11am.
Nice.
What was the split? Activity wise… SBR?
Mostly bike of course; roughly 7 bike 1.5 swim 2 run in terms of time. In terms of effort, 2 hard runs, 3 hard bikes and 1 hard swim.
Actually maybe all the runs were hard to some degree; threshold, vo2 intervals and threshold. But not long.
Solid
Saturday 16k easy run with zl
Sunday 6k easy run with zl
Will be taking it easy for a few days as I have another random midweek 6hr ultra on Thursday (5.5k and 140m ascent per lap, plan on doing 10laps)
Made it over 8 hours this week after a swim, bike & run today. Dragged myself outside on the trails and just about avoided the rain, got shelter from the wind in a couple of places but where I thought I’d get a bit more has been massively deforested in barely 3 weeks so is now wide open ![]()
Pretty even split between running & cycling and just the token effort in the pool today, but will pick that up in the coming weeks.
Supposed to be giving blood tomorrow and could do with a rest day so will do that, and fairly easy this week. Still planning on doing the half next Sunday as a training run at around 70.3 pace.
Finally back to it after a week off sick. 6 miles with 10 x 20secs hill intervals and a 2 min recovery.
Trained twice today, sponsored by Virgin Media’s outage.
5k run first thing.
22:04. 65m elevation.
Lunch, Deadly Dozen workout (paging @Chriswim).
1.5km run, hard.
3 continuous sets of military press, bicep curls, kettlebell deadlifts.
1.5km run, hard.
Was about to ask you for a status report, just been talking to a friend about it.
I’ve not trained gym with this much enthusiasm for >10 years. Slowly getting some strength back, and enjoying it.
Did the 60x single arm snatches straight into the clean and press as a finisher yesterday ![]()
Been going to tennis coaching. It was 90 quid for 8x90 min sessions so pretty good value. There has only been 2 of us on the course and the other lady isnt very good so its been hard to get much practice.
Today she wasnt there so I had 60mins 121 with the coach, just focussing on what I wanted and playing against him. Was brilliant. Knackered at the end of it.
Pretty close to getting my serve spot on.
I’m definitely getting stronger, and similar to yourself enjoying the journey.
I’m nowhere near ready though (mind you, I’ve got several months yet).
My body shape is naturally a bit stockier. Welcome relief than trying to get in running or triathlon shape.
How about yourself?
Monday am 6k easy run
Monday pm 30 mins strength training
So much for recovery…
NUEL Masters ripped my arms off this evening. As I clocked up to 3000m I was like, fuck this, my arms don’t work any more. I was skipping 50s to keep going but I was done
I vaguely remember a few lengths easy. Everything else was hard! ![]()
Man they are fit. Racing in Essex at the weekend apparently.
3500m I think. I turned up early too…
2025•44 - 18km with 15km about Marathon Pace
Felt good.
2km warmup
1hr14 for the 15km at 4:56/km
1km cooldown
In the gym this morning. Somehow my 8th pre-6 am workout on the trot.
Anyway, strength.
2.5k on the rowing machine, then bench press, military press, core work and seated leg raises.
