Frame bags are good. I used a 4.5ltr Topeak one for Brevet Cymru. Needed it to store a decent pump, headlamp, jacket, emergency rations etc.

40 miles out there, 4600ft climbing, not sure on time, probably c. 2h45

My bike is a Tarmac SL6 Pro, 2020 model (arrived last June), with Force AXS. I adore it. It is such a snappy ride. The turbo cotton tyres are beautiful to look at and to ride on, but far, far too fragile for my local roads. I have had 2 punctures in a month already, one of which resulted in a big gash. Patched up and going to ride them until they fall off then replace with tubeless gp5000’s which are already sitting, waiting to be installed.

My power this morning was negligible and my HR just wouldn’t rise. My max HR is about 174, resting is low 50s I think, but when I ride hard I hit 160+ a fair bit. Longer rides tend to settle around 130-140, and Ironman type rides I target mid 120s average as that leaves me fresh for the run.

So no, not normal for me, but body is fighting something so I guess another few quiet days to let it recover. It sucks because I want to ride. I may take the kids out after dinner tonight.

If it persists see the doc.

I ride with similar figures now managing hunters at 158 bpm but that’s on 32x 30…!

Your figures are similar to mine my max is higher but 50 rpm is first thing in the morning only for me.

Making an effort and seeing sub 100 would alarm me… were not all funkster diesels !

I had a bid in on those tyres lost out by 50 p!

Reading the reviews I’m glad I did, conti 5000ā€s are mint, but I haven’t got tubeless.

No races this year so start steady when you do

Well rest didnt go according to plan. We went to QEP at Petersfield. Did a 4km trail walk, had a snack then we walked up Butser Hill.
The one and only time I’d been up here before was half way through Race to the King, which Ironically should have been today. I can remember the tears like it was yesterday!

You know things have not gone right when a Pot Noodle seems like a viable food source.

4K hard run this morning, followed by squats, bridges, bicep curls, sit ups and side planks.

Have a hard 5.5k running effort first thing tomorrow, and I’ve just seen the weather…

… where’s my snorkel?

Zwift this morning as weather crap. 3 sisters. Put setting on about 10% rather than usual 50% and sort of lost the will to live. That’s not (virtual) cycling. Bailed after I’d come down from the epic climb.

Then weather really picked up. Like real sunny etc.
As it’s not Fathers’ day in our house tomoz, ā€˜cos of kids’ birthdays, I was gifted the opportunity to go out again, just a quick blast. I’m really not used to so much cycle traffic as Cheshire lanes at 3pm on a sunny Saturday, but obviously I treated it like a tri bike leg and just had to pass as many of those mofos as possible, though obviously many were probably quite new to cycling (and thought that twat in his spangly new purple-fringed rapha shorts looks fetching if not slightly too fat to be breezing past me like that).

When I get home I discover my AP and NP was so much higher than any usual bike ride I do, virtual or otherwise. Like 50w. Granted, there was a reasonably stiff breeze and I was in full-on ā€œclose the gapā€ then move them out of your draft zone ,a la Zwift.

Anyway, it was a hoot. Loved it. Think it means I should graduate to fat lad Zwift racing and maybe I’m really f’ing missing the training that comes with early season races (sob, would have been at Lakesman today; instead sat in back garden with my 3 boys sat in our tent here instead ) but I can still get better by next year. Need to inject a bit of competition though. I realise the watchword is a ā€œbit.ā€

I’m putting this out there because it won’t happen again. Just added up my climbing:

11,054mtrs in 6 days on Zwift. I’m sticking to Tick Tock from now on.

I really think -and am amazed it hasn’t already happened - Zwift should give you a special badge/bike/Wheelset for your achievement. It’s all a bit spinal tap, but surely for all you’ve done you could get a bike that goes up to 11?

I think that special prize came early when I got those Millensteins on only my 5th time up AdZ

I’m looking forward to hitting level 35 and unleashing 5m drop points :+1:
