Training - What Training?!

Hours run on the treadmill, purposely low speed.

Good to get some time into the legs.

I was trying to decide whether I go out today and tomorrow for about 2hrs running and 2hrs riding to hit my made up arbitrary targets for the year…

Don’t think I can be bothered! It’s cold and wet outside and it really doesn’t mean anything to me.

Might get our for an hour turbo or run tmw when the little one naps if it works out. Unless Mrs GB wants to do something.

Stunning day out there. Sub zero pre dawn start; a bergen run across the fields. Some rare pics from me…

Love those pics @jorgan. Beautiful!

I also got out for a little run on the cliffs. Gutted I never carry a phone, as it was equally stunning. A rare run where I really wish I could’ve captured it. Sea like a mill pond with mist forming on this one little current that snaked from the beach out to sea. That one will stay with me for a long time.

Quite grey today and my mate turned up a bit late and after faffing, was close to 9.40 when we started. An easy 30km on the mtb. Easy as in pace, but not easy in effort, it was really muddy and several hike-a-bike sections (including a fallen tree).

30kms of riding resulted in an hours bike washing and driveway cleaning and a shed load of washing. Great to be out with a mate but can’t say it was worth it.

Sofa and mince pies on the agenda now.

As I commented to @Adam, you shouldn’t look at your totals until you finish to avoid gaming them, I’ve now looked at my totals, so I just off to go run 81km before midnight…

My running for the last 3 years:
2018 - 2775.5km / 199:15:23 4:19/km / 150bpm 8342m
2019 - 3124.9km / 232:58:45 4:29/km / 144bpm 18171m
2020 - 3044.0km / 235:12:00 4:39/km / 143bpm 8484m

As you can see, my pace has been adding 10seconds per km per year… Shows how much COVID has killed my fitness less than half the hills run up, everything’s just been slow and just fitness ebbs away.

Scores on the doors for 2020 time

swim 5hr57m 21km LOLZ
bike 217hrs10m 6050km … Not too shabby, most in the 12 years of records I have at hand
run 36hrs24m 293km my lowest in about 20years…, PF hasn’t helped the last 3 months…and laziness.

Think I need to run more. swim will be at the mercy of the Government. bike , lets see if I can keep that up!

Ace of base though.

That’s still a decent amount of mileage you’ve amassed this year.

Have you changed how you run? I don’t recall you running intervals or such?

Aside from swimming limitations I think I’ve had a good year. Hopefully can push on in 21!

Am I the only that doesn’t keep a tally? I manually log into a XLS for a race program but don’t tally up outside of this.

Dec.20 - Month
S – 5 km
B – 150 km
R – 58 km

Swim – Just one club swim after Lockdown 2 ended and before tighter Tier 3 rules started.
Followed by one public lane swimming session :astonished: before Tier 4 closed the pool.

Turbo – Just too much other ‘stuff’ going on around Christmas.

Run – Despite not going further than 10km, this was my 3rd biggest month of 2020.
As I ended up chasing an annual run target for my ‘Epic’ 2020 Report.

Overall – May not have got training vs. Christmas eating/drinking mix right.
So, I guess I will see some of you over on the weigh in thread tomorrow morning.

Cheers, Paul.

Cheeky NYE half mara, same undulating course as the cheeky Christmas Eve one, 1h41 today, 6 minutes quicker.

Still as a still thing out there which must have helped, at this rate by mid-Feb I’ll be getting the call from Nike

Got to say that despite having Garmin Connect, Strava and did have Training Peaks with my coach I don’t upload everything to them, particularly indoor stuff as I don’t even record some sessions.

I do tend to keep a more accurate log of what I’ve done for running\cycling in XL, but indoor cycling is awkward. Do you do Zwift distance, where in 1 hour you can do 40K easy on Tempus Fugit, or 15k hard on the Alpe? I generally just use what the Wattbike says so it’s consistent.

FWIW, this year with 1 ride to go.

Running 1858K - this does include quite a lot of fell running\walking so not that accurate and didn’t record some.

Cycling 7240K - again, a lot indoors

Swimming, don’t know, don’t care!
