Training - What Training?!

Last week was my last big week before Lanza, culminating with an IM distance bike simulation. Full race simulation 180km route, 2500m climbing, race day nutrition, Tri Suit that I will wear on the day. My plan was to ride at 90% of race pace

I set off at 9am on the hottest day of the year. Even at 9am, it was 24 degrees, by 12 it was over 30 degrees and when I finished just before 3pm it was 34.5 degrees

Really pleased with the way that the ride went, despite the heat, I completed the ride in 5h45, with an NP of 230w, which is just over 90% of my target of 250w. Climbs were steeper than Lanza, and descents were much slower and more technical. The wind in Lanza will be much more of a factor, however, hoping that it will not be as warm

One hour static bike, 70.3 hr 155, bang on the hr.

Power … 210 ish.

No fan.

3 k swim back hurts from fall first few lengths…?!
Kept going managed 4-2-2 stroke rate, for the whole thing which is unusual 53:40 with a lot less effort than usual, actually thinking about the stroke, catch, body position, timing, breathing etc etc etc … hurts my small brain!

What is?
That training is complete?
Or the run course seems fast?

Or both?

Don’t worry, I’ll do my usual implosion at 32km and walk it in for 3:40-3:50, after over-biking to scrape under 6 hours.
Which I was already knackered from after smashing myself to a sub hour swim, then haring through T1.

Don’t worry, it’ll all fall apart on race day.
It always does.

Pretty much every post you’ve made in the last few weeks about smashing and crushing and grapes and courses :joy:

I genuinely hope you get the race you’ve trained for :+1:t3:

Oh, hell no!!!
That’s not the plan - tried that for one loop today, I’d explode on the bike!

6:15 to 6:30 nice and steady, Eddie.

@gingerbongo - Training couldn’t have gone much better. But race day is a different beast. I might be over cooked, we can but wait and see…

(Although, I know EXACTLY what’s going to happen…

…mediocre 65 minute swim
I’ll be annoyed with the 6:30 bike I do
And I’ll still detonate at 32km on the run, then walk it in for a 3:45 - on a good day
(11:30 total time)
)

This is resonating with me a bit. I’ve been proper down in the dumps since my DNF. Keep bouncing between rest my hips, you aren’t losing fitness’ to ā€˜I just can’t be arsed’.

Haven’t run a step since SDW and been watching Tunster rack up the miles. I keep telling myself I’m resting but in reality, I’m sulking. I’m off to Newport tomorrow to meet work peeps for the first time and we are staying in Cardiff.
I’m taking my running gear and have a run round Cardiff Bay early on Wed. I’m hoping meeting colleagues will lift my mood.

I have Endure 24 in less than 5wks, so need to snap out of it.

Being somewhere new/novel and meeting up with different people will definitely lift you I’d say… Unless they’re total :bellhop_bell: :end: that is! :joy: Though it’ll still be nice to interact in a different setting with different people.

A run around the bay would be nice :+1:t3:

We’re would 11:30 have got you in 2019?

20th in @Poet AG

The bike course is … 15-20 mins quicker … ish.
The Grane/ Roman rd/ Jackson heights bit they took out was disgusting, you were going uphill 2-9% for 4 miles at one point.

But 2019 was a perfect day, race wise.

Wind and rain could change all that.

He’s in a tough age group but should do well.

He ain’t doing an 11.30.

I went 11.50 or so at Wales in 2013 as a complete novice. And he’s a much better at all three disciplines individually and combined than I was then.

:rofl::rofl::rofl: brilliant spot number 1!

4x1 mile for me this morning, average 6:30 minute miles.

After work, 30 minute spin class. Sweaty.
