Being honest & constructive isn’t elitist. But yes, it’s a small community here, but abilities vary greatly
Actually I completely agree with their point. They said you wouldn’t try to teach a triathlete just starting out, learning that 1+1=2 , that 3 cubed is 9.
I agree for two reasons.
- Why would you want to teach a triathlete maths?
- 3 cubed is 27

Bad luck Matthew, but you’ll get a far higher standard of biff here ![]()
So, since I did my 70.3 in August 18, my training has been almost non existent.
Piled the weight on, now 7kg heavier than I was and clothes getting a tad uncomfy.
Got a few time constraints for training, but I’m determined to get the fitness back.
5k run this morning, dear god it was awful! Slow and fat!
Time to get back on My Fitness Pal as well.
12km (split, 6km to pool to watch Little One Swim, then 6km back). 5.50 pace.
Weekly total is run: 82kms, no bike (intentionally). Next week is a lower volume for run, so hitting the mtb tomorrow with a mate. Nice easy XC and a coffee.
Exactly. I’m shit!
I’m not totally sure anyone is particularly elitist on here.
From what I’ve seen on Strava most work very hard for their results, there’s a few who are particularly good at individual sports (and don’t do that many tri’s) and a few that have clearly picked better parents, e.g. Joe S in the past.

North Eastern XC champs for me today at a cold windy Alnwick Castle. Low turnout from our club but a decent field overall. Sadly I cocked up and realised on the way to the start I had my hat on, thought I had plenty of time so ran back to my bag to put it in. Got back to the start and no-one was there and the last man was even about 150m into the race
Managed to make my way through a bit, not sure about position etc. but scraped under an hour and didn’t get lapped off the fast lads which is usually my first aim!
Did remind me why I don’t do many XC races though.
Jeff
It takes time, and the improvements are incremental, but in 6 months you will have shed half that weight and 10km will feel like an easy day. Stick with it! Don’t be demoralised by how tough it feels in the beginning.
I know. Annoying that I let it get this far.
60 minutes on the Wattbike this morning. 5 x 5 minute intervals.
No training for a week now!
Have the first cold I have had in years and it’s a stinker.
Just not felt like I would get anything out of any training so knocked it on the head.
Hopefully get back into it next week.
My mtb ride got canned as my mate was sick. Ran 5km to Jnr Park Run and ran in the mud with Little One.
She pb’d with a 12.03
Thomas’ Excellent Excuse of the Week #2 for not riding:
So, we went to the in-laws annual Christmas shindig last night, no booze for me, as I was driving. But, it did mean I didn’t have the chance to perform my Saturday night pre-ride checks.
Oh well, I’ll do them early Sunday morning.
Drat! I forgot to pick up breakfast items on the way home last night, no worries, I’ll take the dog to the local shop and pick some breakfast up, I’m sure my bike is okay - a quick once over will suffice…
…looks okay.
But what’s that squeaking, scraping and rattling?
Just my brake block nearly worn to the shoe and rubbing the rim.
I’ll quickly swap them out…wheel out…oh, cack! That’s a loose spoke…no bother I’ll tighten it…nipple is just turning in the hole
It’s the rear wheel, too. Isn’t it always?
Tire and tube off, rim protector lifted, purchase given on nipple and the spoke is tightened and the wheel is still running true.
Brake blocks replaced, chain oiled and ready to go…but it’s now 0945

Moral of the story?
Check your bike before riding, ideally the day before.
CTL is now at 68, after nearly two complete rest weeks.
Marathon training starts tomorrow.
muted yay
Glad this isn’t me! I’m now enjoying my vino!
I’m at 57 just on the run!
A measly 28k for me this week, across 4 runs Monday to Saturday.
Oh, but then I then boshed out 42.2 in 2:48
(forgive me, I’m rather pleased!)
CTL up to 41 from mid 20’s after very solid 2 week consistent block. Still some way to go to highest of this year at 81.
A solid 10 hours for me, with a 40 minute Pilates session still to go later.
2 bikes - 1hr turbo and a 3hr very steady ride today.
2 swims- both around 45 minutes. 1 endurance intervals, 1 speed intervals
2 runs - 1hr 25 yesterday and a 45min run to work
CTL at 57 and creeping up after a week or so disrupted by illness and work.
Light week with crazy work, and sacrificed my run today to go on a wonderful walk with my wife and kid.
18 hours 45 min total this week
Highlights are 1:05 3.6 km swim with float shorts.
1x 4.5 hour static bike at 144 bpm
3 x 1 hour runs that were very slow at set heart rates which went well and a 30 min flat out bike power test that… didn’t !
Stick at it folks.
