Training - What Training?!

Problem is I can’t run fast in training.
I darent run off road through the woods (which is bloody ace ) as I’m scared of my ankle going over again.
I find those two things enjoyable.

Swimming. Man. I dunno.
Some days I’m all over it, others I get 100m in and think “what am I doing?”
Open water - Goldilocks. It’s currently raining with 25mph winds. The car park will be wet. Or I’ll have to park on the main road. My crappy car is clean and the white dust will clag everywhere and make it dirty inside. The lake will be cold. I will be cold until some point on Saturday. So I’ve mentally sacked that off.

Zwift. Shit. Bores me to tears.
RGT was okay - but only ‘cos it’s new to me.
Outside is good, but the weather is just atrocious. Like proper crap. Even in Mallorca it was shit. Wet, windy, never perfect (like the summer of 2020)

Pfft. Life, eh?
Should probably download Rightmove again and see if there’s any houses I like for sale. That’ll give me summat to do.

How long did it take to recover? I did mine at the start of April and it’s still not 100% now.

I’m not clever at this!
I rolled it about 1.4km from home, then did another 6.6km on it, instead of walking home and icing it immediately :joy:
9th November 2021 that was.

I then jogged the XC that weekend. Then another 9km two days after that.

I then did a 3-6km tester per week on it.

I stopped running on December 19th.
Finally going to rehab on January 27th.
Started running again on Jan 28th (3km)
Followed a couch to 5km thing. Just the last four weeks.
Only two to three jogs per week.

Ankle went POP again on March 7th.
Waited a week and it seemed okay again.
Got some Voltarol and Diclofenac and that made it fine to run on :rofl::man_shrugging:t4:

Until it wasn’t…

…so I didn’t run from March 19th until April 25th again.
I did two easy 6km jogs that week. Ankle felt fecked.

Ran two 5km over a mountain/hill on May 4th.
Harness some Jedi power for that one
Felt okay, so I’ve been jogging on it again.

Did 17km over three sessions a fortnight ago.
Did 28km last week (inc a sub-20 5km)
Trying for 32km this week.

It’s still fecked. But I can run on it pretty much pain free.
But walking on it afterwards hurts (3/10)

So, to answer your question; it’s still not right six months later.

One for the existential thread isn’t it?

You can remember a lot of detail :cloud_with_rain: :man: Sounds like you’ve pushed it more than me.

I did mine at the start of April and rested it for 2 weeks.

3 weeks after I did a few test runs to see how it felt and was stiff but minimal pain when jogging so I decided to run the 3 peaks :see_no_evil: Or run up and walk down.

I’ve done one 5k effort (at the end of a triathlon) but everything else steady or efforts on grass. It does seem to be getting slowly better each week but I’m patient! I’ve found that fast pace efforts when I’m on the front of my foot is fine, but easy efforts more mid-foot I feel more pain.

It’s bad that yours is still not right when you’re walking - sounds like you’ve got to run everywhere instead!

Goes back to what @gingerbongo and @adam said about naming activities correctly on Strava :+1:t3:

I just went through the training calendar. :joy::see_no_evil:

Physio said people have massively varying recovery times :sob:
I’m a forefoot runner and the pain comes from my ankle, so when walking it is coming from that hitting the floor first.
Mid foot is bearable.

Just gotta keep up with the alphabet, hopping, calf raises and all that jazz (none of which seem to be doing anything!)

morning/afternoon/evening run/ride

What more do you need?

Tired Run
Name of Destination/Route/Ride (such as Nets Cafe, Tilly’s, Thorn Cross, Mow Cop)
Hilly Ride
Windy Ride
Hungover parkrun (to find the optimum Friday night fuelling strategy. Six tinnies is too much, four is okay, two probably best)

Roasting / Cold / Snowing etc.

Up t’t’mill (up to the mill)

And so on

Surely the correct answer was SWIM ?

But you don’t need to know that you were tired, that’s obvious from the pace.
You don’t need to know the destination, or the hilly, that’s obvious from the route
You don’t need to know the wind, that’s obvious from the pace

and so on.

But you can’t see the pace from the Training Calendar.

I could do a 26kmh hilly ride or a sociable 26kmh flat one.
So I can’t tell from just looking at the name.

I can tell a lot from what I name my activities.
It lets me know what my general mood was like that week, too.

Grumpy? :grinning:

Snap.

Helps me to remember the activity as well ‘night of the thousand frogs’. A particular run, must be 4/5 years ago that I specifically remember due to that title!

Tough job, or are you horribly inefficient?! :joy:

7km run this morning. Then a 10km hike over the cliffs with the Mrs. Quick brunch in this ace little cafe and then in for a swim at the pool.

I was the fastest in the pool by some margin. Let that tell you a story! :joy: :joy:

Both, I think.
