After a week with 0 hours cardio and/or core mid-December, back into the flow today with a 3.25 hour bike (hmmm, it was quite blustery). Nice ride down the Mennock pass and back up the Dalveen pass. Total cardio hours this week (including nice early Xmas 1.5 hour run saw mountain hare yay) = 6.25, possibly my highest for December this year.
I’ve decided that due to recurring issues with achillees/battered and bruised mature temple, I’m going to train over a 2 week cycle, previously 1 week. Additionally, going to try and have alternate cardio/rest day.Looking back when I trained for X, I actually had half of the six months off as rest days, usually tho in blocks. See how I get on with this regime.
Haha, yeah a long sightseeing one. Great bunch of lads who do it every year. A few coffee and photo stops. Then pushed the final few miles. Leo, the dude with white top
in strava photos has ran 137 miles this week. 3300 miles this year. He ran 18:36 5km yesterday and finished off today’s run with last mile at sub 6 minute. He’s out tmrw for another 20. 45yrs old, 85kg, never injured, 2:49 Mara runner, insane
My run wasn’t quite as epic as chickenboy’s sightseeing tour of the capital but I managed 31k around the moors, with the bonus of about 100m through a peat bog when I turned off too early as visibility was down to about 30m, thought I’d take a direct route to the pub instead of just retracing my steps
Weird how the thick mist can totally lift in the space of about 500 metres though.
Parkrun for me yesterday. Only my second of the year. Quite illuminating how humidity makes a difference. First time ever really exercising in the kind of heat and humidity of a place like Singapore.
Felt absolutely great up to 2k. Guy leading (another British guy who I spoke to after, normally based in HK) was heavy breathing and I felt fairly in control. 2k popped up and I saw my HR was 192! That was a bit of a surprise given how I was feeling. A few hundred metres later and BANG! The wheels came well and truly off. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like stopping to walk in a 5k before. I managed to crawl back to the finish in 4.15/km pace, despite feeling like I was putting in as much effort as a sprint. 10min HR was the second highest all time…only beaten by my first ever XC. Hit 196 max. Don’t think I’ve seen number like that in years. Walking back to the metro, the HR was mid 130s. That’s my usual easy run HR!
Probably gives me some kind of glimpse into how hard Hawaii actually is. Given I understand it’s hotter, and more humid, I don’t understand how it’s possible!
Aiming to get to Northwich (and possibly Delamere, too) New Years Day parkrun…
…I ran a hard 19:45 last NYD, whilst I was on the “comeback” trail. Hopefully I can get somewhere near that this time!
Training this week has been a little better:
A couple of jogs totalling 90 minutes and 19km
One bike, with a further one planned in a bit. Should be around 5.5hrs and 150km ish.
Swimming with the club this evening for the first swim of the week
Pool times are all over the place in the holidays and then they’re closed 6,7,8th January to refurb the changing rooms - so I’ll be schlepping to the next town down to use theirs instead.
Hah. I try explaining how hard training in heat and humidity is to clueless people who keep saying ‘ you must be mad to move back to the UK’.
I’ve given up now. It’s hard training in bad humidity, plus then you have to shower, get dressed and stand on a humid bus with 150 other sweaty people who have zero notion of the word ‘deodorant’!
Had a similar thing when I worked in Malaysia for 6 weeks.
I entered an aquathalon (800m swin and 5k run) and was belting it out for the first half of the run wondering why everyone was running so slowly. Got to the turn around point and realised why as my wheels came off!! Humidity is bloody tough!!
Mangaged to hang in there and actually got the win for my one and only first place trophy
2 bike rides riding to and from the in-laws. Yesterday’s ride with the sun and wind on my back was lovely, really enjoyed that.
One easy run and a very hungover Parkrun. Next time I’m down in Hants I’ll have to revisit Hogmoor. Interesting route on trial/sand. I died a death after 2km then cruised home.
No swims but I’m getting back in the pool at some point today.
Also managed to stay at 82kgs, fairly pleased after the amount of booze I’ve consumed and food I’ve eaten. Diet starts after New Years
It was cold up here yesterday - was actually nicer today, not a cloud in the sky and much drier (main) roads. The sun was shining and everyone was saying hello, whilst gurning their way to a Festive 500
10hours last week, which bearing in mind a couple of days off, I’m pleased with. Finally caught the family cold bug so this week is bound to be disrupted, but managed to get one of my swims in this afternoon. Crazy busy at the pool so just bashed out some easy 800 reps.
