Yes. I think Hampton was shutting around 2pm anyway mate. It was carnage. Bloke with snorkel and fins; lady doing super slow breaststroke; then two super quick girls get in and start swimming over the top of everybody. Was glad to get out alive!
+1
Easy 14k round the moors again today with the running club, I offered to put a route on, at half way there was 2 options back, most of us went the longer way and my 11k turned into 14.5k
Although most people enjoyed the route TBF
That was mine also, but weāre going with the bottom left, which is Polished Pebble. We have that upstairs and in the hallway.
Anyway, conduit moved, all sanded, sugar soaped and undercoat done. CBA with running tonight, back is on fire.
7 hours last week, very pleased with that.
Rest today, very poorly puppy being kept at the vets overnight for observation so things are a bit fraught.
Managed to keep things ticking over but no commuting miles and only one swim as other pool closed.
1 Swim - 1hr - 2200m
4 Bikes - 3:15 - 110km
3 Runs - 2:30 - 22km
Realised I needed a different roller sleeve for the top coat on my wall and wanted to make an early start. So I threw on the head torch and running pack, then ran the 7.5kms to Screwfix, picked the sleeves up and ran back.
15kms @ 5.38 pace. (dreaded grey zone)
Ramp Test on TrainerRoad followed by 20mins on Zwift sweet spot intervals.
Happy new year everybody peeps.
As normal I think the year will start with a rest day. Feeling like Iām coming down with something.
Having a rest day as my back isnāt great after decorating. I did expend some energy chasing little one around Micheldever Forest.
She likes the gnar!
Bloody glad I decided to buy the mud guards.
Northwich parkrun today and dipped under 20 minutes which was pleasing
@Poet was there sprinting out of the blocks
All in with a run there and back clocked in at just over 9 miles.
Nice and steady 12km run for me, once the gin hangover had worn off.

Yeah - guilty as charged!!!
I did the double of Delamere and Northwich, but didnāt run the 13km between them like some nutters!
Iāve never done Delamere before and set off like a lunatic, after a poor 400m warm up, ran in first place for the first km, until I realised I didnāt know where I was going, so let a guy with grippy trail shoes pass me and the awesome 15yo woman I was running with.
The 4% were garbage on the trails and my feet were all over the place.
Some guy in a 250 runs t-shirt passed me and the female, so We are now in 3rd/4th.
The course then goes āuphillā for the final 800m or so, which is where she pulled away from me and someone passed me (literally SILENTLY!) on the last slippy bit to the finish.
He finished 2s ahead of me, but I was very pleased to come in 5th in 19:12ā¦
ā¦quick leave of the car park and to Northwich to use the bathroom and grab an espresso at Costa.
Managed a full kilometre warm up at this one.
Set off at 3:20/km pace to see if anyone came with me, they did, but they held that for most of the run.
I like this course, but now prefer Delamere for its proper single loop and trail nature.
Northwich was also atrocious for the 4% and my feet were not holding on the corners.
Heart and lungs felt fine, legs just didnāt want to fire.
Came home in 7th for 18:49, a minute quicker than last New Years Day (when Iād only done one!) and a course PB
Serpentine New Years day 10k for me. Turns out that a late night of 3am on the guinness makes for nasty running. Woke at 7 to a new year greeting of the shits, on and off the bog. Packed my running shorts with toilet paper and thought wtf, just get it done. Another explosion at hyde park toilets, apologies to the gent who went in after me!!! went off from the front, held on to emma pallant for all of 100m, looked at my watch at 1mile and clocked 5:40 min/mile, what a tit! took a while to settle back to āreasonableā pace and held together for 38:19 and 4th V50. Not shitting myself was a huge bonus!!
Waiting for @jeffb ās Hardmoors 15 report nowā¦
@Poet well done for doing the double, I couldnāt be bothered getting out of bed for Delamere but it is a lovely course so will need to go back and do it soon.
Couldnāt believe the numbers at Northwich today, there were 474 finishes!
Think on a normal week you might have got a first place with that time.
Haha, so as @Poet spotted I was in his home town this morning doing the NYD 15 miler to Whitby and back. Thereās also a 30 miler which I wouldnāt be surprised if TC didnāt do.
I was feeling a bit tired after a poor sleep and my legs were sore after a bit too much hill running over the holidays, but the fields tend to be a bit thin at these races after the top few.
Thereās a short 2k loop which is largely downhill to thin out the field and as thereās a few pinchpoints at gates I usually try and get near the front, in this case the front, then thereās a sharp climb out of town, I realised at this point it was going to be a bit of a tough day as the legs were burning, the climb picks up an old railway track which is pretty runnable.
At this point there was 5 of us leaving the field behind, 2 of them were other lads from my club that I new were good runners. The other 4 pulled away from me by about 100m but that gap then stayed consistent on the fairly long descent into Whitby (which was rammed with NYD tourists!).
I was actually getting a bit closer to them and one started slowing down so I went past him, at this point we were at the bottom of the 199 steps up to the Abbey (if anyone has ever been there) and I was about 20 seconds off 1st/2nd/3rd who were pretty much together.
At this point they just dropped me, after about 2k on path\road you pick up the coastal path which was soft and a bit greasy but not the bog I was expecting, itās pretty undulating from there to the finish with some greasy stoned descents.
Weād started catching some of the 30 mile back markers and the front 3 were going out of sight so I was just trying to plod on and hold onto 4th.
When I got back the 2 lads from the club were just outside the building, theyād finished 2nd & 3rd, but I think one was about 3 minutes ahead of me and the other was only about 60-70 seconds.
The previous few weeks had definitely caught up with me and I think I was about 3 minutes or so slower on the last 8k than last year but I doubt Iād have taken 3rd anyway, I suspect heād have been able to up it a bit if I was nearby.
Although Iām not sure about my pacing, it looks like I set a few segment PBās on the way to Whitby, that could have been because there was less wind and because the pack were just in front.
A nice day and run and more part of the bigger picture, couple of easy days now to recover from the mini-training break over Christmas.
BTW, yes Poet you are right, it was a pretty brutal course, it was a hard effort for what would have only been 1:44 HMP pace, Iāll see how it compares at the Brass Monkey in 10 days.
Jeff
Great effort @jeffb. A fab start to the year.
