Any change in how we access the old archives? Got to the home page and forum, but when trying to open a thread get 404 not found.
Original. Is the true original
Archive. Is an attempt at an html scrape which is ok generally but seems to have some issues
Thanks, found thread I wanted.
Must admit, I’ve never used an affiliate link of any site. Mrs FP buys a lot from Amazon and I have a Wiggle tranche due soon to order. Do we just click on the link and sign in via that, then in Amazon for example, can we buy any products and that will help the site?
Yep as simple as that or click the Amazon banner advert.
Hi Hammerer
I had an account that I have not accessed for nearly ten years, shortly after the death of a former running mate and prior to remarrying. Over ten years on, I am now keen to dust down and repair my TT bike (Cervello P5) since an accident and hopefully get back onto training and casual competition.
I wondered if it is it all possible to recover this (ironchamp) account attributed to my same email account?
Notably my last reference was: b=266&d=24&m=5&y=2009
Much appreciated if it is recoverable and happy to donate if you succeed.
Thanks. Alan
It was deactivated with extreme prejudice, as we found out you weren’t actually an Ironman Champion
The archive of the old site is a static website now, no way to log in. Its pretty crap as well. Unfortunately it became too much of a risk and too expensive to keep up as it hasnt had any updates done for 10 odd years. The database had been deprecated, was open to injection attacks, and lots of bits had just stopped working like the news pages. There was no other options. You may be able to salvage bits from archive.tritalk.co.uk but past that it is gone forever.
On the plus side, we all get to re-invent our sporting selves. I was pretty spectacular back then as memory serves.
Shame I never did watch that Beach Runner video on the news page for about 5 years.
Shucks Jorgan - I guess you know the prospect of retrieval is minimal.
I will let on that Champion is only my surname but my wife, Juliet merits the name more than I do (re: Luchon Ultra trail 2017 if you search the video on youtube).
So, I am closer to my end-of-life crisis being one of the last finishers in Ironman Nice 2017 prior to my heart surgery in 2018 cos the old ticker was clocking 250bpm for 10 mins quite often on a run.
Nevertheless, I did finish a gentle 9km trail (La Chouffe) the day after I came out of hospital, carefully maintaining a max 135 bpm accompanied by my 7-year-old daughter, Gabrielle, who finished confidently ahead.
So, perhaps watch out for a future Champion (now a Benjamine with ERA Antibes & Antibes Tri club)?
Scuse my long-winded late-night response before my doctor’s appointment in a few hours; insomnia comes with age as I recall from my numerous late postings on tritalk over a decade ago.
I did try to find it in the archive under ironchamp but no joy. Thx anyway for responding.
Been having a look on the archive site but it has a lot of errors, regularly get 404 & key type errors on Edge & Chrome. Is this the same for everyone?
Fruity asking about Kona Q and I think Doka was also interested. TRO saying about how he was going in 2020, that was back in 2019 and he still hasn’t been, this is going to be one of the longest waits ever until next year!
Some good training and other threads.
I was surprised how long I’d been on, 2008, only a few months after Jorgan but was obviously just stalking with a small number of posts!
Ive not looked at it for some time, but was only thinking today, wonder how many hits it gets. I was going to use the bucket to store backups and free more space on this server! You can get there with some messing around, but it does get confused easily. It would work better if I’d just kept the same url, but obviously, that wasn’t an option.
If anything were to change, I would (in a perfect world) like to retrieve my blog posts from 2007/8.
I think the data is lost - and it’s my own fault for being too slow to extract it … but …
Funkster’s original race report would be good.
What was that about? I did spend some years not paying much attention so no idea about the race and whether it had the epic life and death narrative of Dre’s Tough Guy report
I ‘think’ it was a HIM and he did on his Dad’s borrowed bike or something. It was pretty funny. It was years ago before he was ‘proper fast’
One of the very first reports when I joined was about something like that … I’m sure it was by a ‘Rob’ and the race was the first HIMUK in Llanberis so c2001 vintage.
IIRC he compared his scrotum coming out of the swim to Bob Marley’s dreadlocks
I think my introduction was TTowels double ironman - Training like he’d already won it.
Getting up at 2am to knock out 20 mile runs and such.
Frankly since then the rest of you have been a huge disappointment
