I see Midnight Man there. I was reading about that and it was the first time I’d ever heard of Dave Clamp, is he still doing the rounds?

Not sure if he’s still active. I did MnM the year he was going for a sub 9 , but he didnt allow for 40 dead turns and got a really hot night, was unbearably humid after dark, crazy night! following year we got a monsoon, think 2017 Tenby but at night. Standing water, unswept course, one guy I know got 4 punctures and borrowed a wheel (I got 2 and DNF’d as I couldnt be arsed anymore, very cold, very wet and very dark and miserable!)

he was/is an incredible athlete. His base must be huge all that Deca training.

I’d also add that the MnM is one of my favourite races ever, up with Forestman as best. Its a dreadful location, horrible multiple laps format around a trading estate and up and down a dual carriageway in the dark, but so much fun, grass roots, no thrills and proper people doing it, no IM egos. Its not a one and done race for sure, so you get the @Toyota_Crown 's of the world there.

Yes Dave Clamp is still very active, despite being over 60 now. e.g. He had a bash at Brutal’s Deca at Allerthorpe this year.

Fastest course out of all them ?
I don’t know the Odyssey but I’d guess Midnight Man, even though it has a lot of dead turns there’s no great elevation change.

How do you swim in the dark?
Nah MnM isnt fast, that bike really does take it out of you and on an unlucky day the wind blows up the hill so its slower down than up. I say hill, false flat, its enough that you notice it though after a few times.
I’d agree, and I wouldnt choose it for a PB as the Olympic was enough turns for me, but looking at the rest of the list…?
