Think sticky watts has been mostly removed now after Pack Dynamic 3.0 was brought in
I think insisting turbo is primary source of power takes sticky watts out but if you use a pm it’s still
possible with the new pack dynamics.
Bah, only scored 368 in Cat A. I would only have come 6th in B too; some very well ranked B riders.
Take a read of this:
It’s worth following him this month, as he’s on the points chase
thought i’d try a race again on Zwift tomorrow night…. but it appears that the entire evening is dominated by ZRL-WTRL races and no one else gets a look in…the very few other races have pretty much no entries……
Podium time then surely?! ![]()
Probably, but that’s no fun…. and as a dedicated slacker, I need the competition to push me!
How to win a sprint: ride at 1102w for 10 seconds… EASY.
This is why I almost never ride Crits; the monsters and fat lads can just sit in for the sprint.
Whats the best way to approach a sprint anyway? Let’s say there’s a group all together with 500m to go. Do you just go full gas as soon as anyone else does, and hold on as long as possible? Or do you dial it up to 80 or 90% and hold something back for the last few seconds?
Not that it will make any difference here, I’ll still be the laterne rouge I guess
I think for me… As we don’t have the proper watt bombs. You’ve gotta capitalise on the draft as much as possible.
If you hit the front early on anything that’s not an uphill finish , game over.
So I don’t think it’s really holding back in a % term. It’s holding whatever effort to follow whoever you think is the right wheel to follow at that time.
All to easy to chase the wrong one and end up at the front or watching the race at the back tho.
TdZ has big fields and you can choose short medium or long. Then there is always Bologna TT at 6pm…
I must confess to never training my ‘sprint’ but tbh I am never going to get close to 1000w with my physiology/weight, so I have to pick my events i.e. those that have various significant selection points before the end.
@fruit_thief I wonder if ‘sticky watts’ is how I got that gap on you descending off Box Hill? That or a combination of my pedals and your Saris? (the other 2 riders stayed with me). It’s certainly something I will try to deploy in future; ride hard after the summit before deploying the super-tuck.
Ditto, at least that’s what I assume, but I am beginning to wonder a little bit.
What I don’t know is if there would be any crossover benefit to training bike sprint in triathlon terms. I’m thinking possibly not and might even get worse at running with chunkier legs, or be at more risk of injury??
It’s an interesting one, started off seeing Zwift as a simple distraction to make tri training more interesting in the winter. But right now it kind of feels the other way round, which is kind of making me question assumptions.
The problem is that we are trying to exchange life-long Type I slowtwitch fibres for Type II…that’s not something that happens quickly or without affecting other physiology.
Yep same. Compounded by my running injury I’m starting to really focus on zwift.
I’m up to 800w… With no training or adaption other than tweaking how I sprint. Going to add in some more strength work, as definitely a limiter for me.
So excited to race tonight in what looks like a tough, but competitive league.
This is generally me as well, I use it to encourage me to do hard bike sessions over the winter and try and do some of the TT courses. The other races are fun but I know I won’t generally be contesting the sprints so don’t get too hung up about it, or any cheating.
The crit races with the power spikes probably help on twisty UK courses or if they undulate though? Appreciate most are longer than 25 minutes.
UK courses?
You’re having a laugh
They’ve all gone for the most part and everything is stupid circuit racing (Darley Moor, Pimbo, Tameside)
Sprint out of corners, coast to next one, repeat.
For 10-25 laps.
@mw22 @Jorgan @fruit_thief
Rocker plates are said to help with indoor sprinting, as you can sway the bike as you stomp the pedals.
@Doka has some good sets to improve your sprinting power, if he’s the same guy who posts them over on the dull US triathlon forum?
I’ve never trained my sprint, but can generate close to 1000W for 5s, dropping to 946W for 12s, 927W for 20s.
EDIT: Here’s my power curve from the past year:
There is some good stuff here about training it:
(Follow the other links and extra reading etc)
That ain’t me.
Sorry
Surname is slightly different.
