… at least it wasn’t Amsterdam!
Sorry, I should probably have clarified that the race was actually a 20km bike (on Zwift) then 5km run (outside), so we were only interested in the bike times, not the positions. It relied on an honesty system or reporting the times (including transition).
I believe we had to take a screenshot / try and remember the time that flashed up on the banner, I don’t think after the fact there was any way to obtain the exact times? Zwift > Strava has the total ride time including warm down and there wasn’t an exact segment for the route.
It was an inter club event; Swindon, Oxford and Leighton Buzzard. Oxford had some bloody fast runners!
2x Whole Lotta Lava race this evening, tried to go off with the front-ish groups, was at 350w and getting nowhere then it clicked that all categories had gone off together so I was trying to match As and Bs - schoolboy error!
Did my first Zwift ride in 4 weeks or so.
I put my gravel bike on there, with the 1x cassette, and it works fine but the gaps between gearing felt a little more noticeable. Also found my lower cadence on Zwift meant the hardest gear wasn’t really hard enough.
Regardless, I was absolutely shattered for some reason. Put out middling watts but was sweating so much my t-shirt looked like I had dipped it in a bucket. Also my HR wouldn’t recover between efforts. I knew I didn’t feel great yesterday so took my first rest day in over a month, but still not right today. Will rest up.
No idea how anyone wears more than bib shorts on the turbo!
Bib shorts
Visor to stop the sweat pouring into my eyes
2 fans
Window open
I go with the Lionel approved sweatband
The stupid mesh base layers are great on the turbo they stop the drips but allow the air to cool you off.
I used a buff and a Hoka one but after 30 minutes it was soaked and the sweat was dripping
I need a good one of these
I wear gloves on the turbo, mainly because I only use the TT bike on the turbo, so I try to stop rivers of sweat running down the aero bar shifters.
Yeah. they’re largely what I use. I have a few now
Bib shorts, gloves and Lionel Head Band for me also.
My shoes are beginning to stink as I’ve not been wearing socks.
I’ve got a towel covering the whole handlebar area
3 routes to go and 3/4 around my last watopia route zwift crashes out.
Can’t believe a drop in Internet doesn’t just revert you into a menu.
No route badge today, glad it wasn’t the PRL!
Back on Zwift again after blissful 2 weeks of outdoor riding. Nothing special. However, did manage to totally succeed in a bike repair task without spending money so I shall call that a win. Basically discovered right pedal suddenly wouldn’t turn, stuck fast in one position. After unscrewing it slightly I carried on then it did it again, only this time I decided to try and tough it out until hitting a round # of km, only to realise quite how crazy this all was as I was definitely using a very odd muscle grouping to propel the pedals round the BB at the same time as keeping the pedal itself level with sort of heelward pressure. Got off the bike with a sigh and my bare leg touched the pedal…it was totally red hot. Ouch. So I’m guessing that’s total pedal failure then? Had them 6 years since first got that bike and dreading changing them cos I assumed they’d be stuck fast but 1. I got them off first time and 2. I had a spare pair of pedals in the garage (why? I have no idea) so managed to be back on the turbo within about 10 minutes. Finished the shorter route I was planning to do and back in the front room with the wife and kids before they could miss me…
I bought a couple of these Sportful x-lite versions of this £10 on wiggle last year

I just stick an old race t-shirt over them and use it to wipe my head. With the fan on it’s been quite cold in the garage the last few days.
Trying for the Uber pretzel today, but not sure my heart is in it. We shall see. Just about to hit the top of the first major climb.
Uber Pretzel for me was mentally harder than PRL FULL
