It really is dull isn’t it. I went to NY many years ago and took a photo of the Dakota buildings (it’s the duty of a scouser to do so). Said photo hangs in my gym but it was quite a few years later I discovered that the building i had taken a photo of , while famous, and beautiful, is the wrong fucking one. There you go. So while I was doing one of the courses today I cycled past the instantly recognisable double peaked building that sits next to where JL was shot, and I thought to myself, “you are a tit that never ever bothers to read the full instructions.” More pertinently “you forgot to turn the bloody fan on and that’s why you currently hate yourself , the world and this bloody awful course.”
Yep that’s it, keeps you going round the lap, lap counter after the end of lap on the side of the road. I was lapping between 6.30 and 7 minute laps then rounded it up to the 27 miles in 1h 12m, total of 700ft climbing
Might hit the 25 lap next weekend
My main issue with NY is that you just can’t get any rhythm on it. It’s not a climber’s course, a TT course, but it’s to hilly to be rolling and it’s not big enough to do any of these things for any length of time.
I’ve bailed my second Zwift, did an easy 5k on the beach instead and had a bag of chips
Zwift racing on sky tonight, not sure how it was all set up but it looks like Froome gives lots of sportspeople 5 minute start and chases them down, or something…
I watched the Sky/Ineos Team race yesterday and enjoyed just spectating and seeing the dynamics it over the Harrogate course.
A short 52 up the Alpe today for 280 watts - thought it was a pb effort but realised after finishing I’d been a minute faster
Will target sub 50, will probably need 300 watts to do it!
anyone want to join me in a TT up the Alpe at 5pm (UK Time) today?
BST Happy Mountaingoats’ Hill Climb TT
I think the problem is Matt that most of us would join you from the bottom until about half way to hairpin 21, then we wouldn’t see you again
I wouldn’t make it past the Sloth #irony
3rd on the road, 1st on Zwift power. Somebody called A Valverde passed me at the start of the climb, and I held on for a couple of corners, but 6w/kg was too much - he was 1m2s ahead at the finish
Gear cable snapped a few days ago. Apparently the mechanism is b-d, so no Zwift for a while. Might have to venture outdoors again. Not sure my translucent skin and wide black eyes can handle it.
I moved from Zwift to outdoors when the lockdown was eased, now back to Zwift this week as I fight a heavy work load and a slight cold that means dawn raids are off the agenda for a week or two.
Last weekend I did a LOT of Zwifting. Monday was a rest day. Yesterday was the Hilly Course and then 80% of the Japan race (Innsbruck Course) 80% because I picked the race based on distance to fit into a 1 hour break at work… and then found out the end is a long steady hill climb. I literally ran out of time and had to go back to work. Still a great workout though.
Did a two lapper on the short London loop taking in Box Hill - initially thought it was the bigger loop and only one ascent of Box Hill rather than 2 so that was nice.
Held the front B group to Box Hill but when most of them disappeared at 5w/kg the triathlon/TT brain engaged and I stayed just over 4w/KG as it had already been fairly full gas to that point.
Got into a group of 4 by the top and from there it all got a lot easier for a while, holding 2.5-3w/kg on the flat bits, then at the foot of Box was expecting fireworks but turns out they were all tired and I was able to ride off - was pleased to hold 4.5W/Kg up Box the second time around and got a nice big gap to make the descent and flat bit stress free (although was still working hard). Came in about 20th in the race and ~15th on Zwift Power.
That’s a pretty nice result, I think that triathletes may lack the top end power, but are able to recover much faster than many other Zwift riders.
Yeah definitely - looking at the NP/AP results on ZP looks like all the folks in the front group had large VI, which is not something we train for!
exactly like @Daz massive VI in races (That’s my excuse why he keeps beating me). I just lead everyone out.
Strava has my new Alpe PB at 53:54, and 255w. Previous was 54:20 and 256w, but that was using the Madone/808 rather than the Tarmac/Enve. Plus I got to work with a couple of other riders briefly.
Last time I did the Alpe someone came past me with the feather and I was like how did you get that mofo?
There was an annoying chap going after segments when I last did the Alpe so he’d do a blast a 5-6w/kg then cruise the next at 0.7
