Hopefully the last time for a while I come pleasing for bike advice. Few options suddenly become available after 4 months of looking:
Specialised Shiv Pro 2015, size Large, ultegra, Roval CL 60 wheels, magura brakes, stages power meter, garmin 810, fuel cell and gorilla xlab bottle holders, adamo saddle, £1400
Planet X Stealth pro 2015, size medium, SRAM Force, vision metron 81mm rims, fuel cell, xlab bottle holder, £1000
Quintanoroo CD0.1 2012. 56CM. Ultegra, Reynolds carbon wheels, think comes with added extras like bottles and £600. Not yet seen in person.
Assuming all fit as well and in same condition, which would people opt for? Q1 on value, and Q2 if price was no aspect?
Sizewise I think I fit all 3, with the QR being just borderline on the big side, and the PlanetX being borderline small. Shiv I’m right in the middle of the online size charts.
Forget the PX, that is a rip off. Also the other two are large and that is a medium. The stealths come up very small. I had an XL, took it the bike fitter who took one look at it and said, that bike is too small for you.
Agree, and think it’s an answered question before I posted, but thought I’d check with TT for approval.
Shiv is pending sold, but owner would like to avoid packing up to send interstate whereas I live 10 mins away so willing to let me view tomorrow before he sends it. Seems very trustworthy, member of local club. I already have PM so that’s bit of an unneeded extra.
QR almost seems a bit too cheap, and it’s a very minimal Facebook advert.
PX certainly felt oddly small when I got on it compared to their size charts.
I’m willing to pay more for the better bike, especially amongst those 3 but even higher still if still right value. That said the only other bike within 200km is a cervelo P3x for £4500, but I’m not keen on the look.
Shiv is a great bike, on the flat there is very little difference in speed to the P3X. The P3X feels much safer at high speed, the Shiv gets nervous above 60-70kph. Climbing the P3X beats the Shiv, however, I’ve done mountain passes on the Shiv.
There’s been a huge increase in the number of e-bikes on the road generally and all the food and delivery guys seem to ride e-bikes now. Lots of them look like after-market conversions and there’s clearly loads of illegal imports around motoring along well in excess of 15mph.
Having followed the TT advice 2 years ago ^^, I’m back asking. In the middle of race season and think my Shivs breaks are unrepairable or not in time for key races/training.
Options:
anyone heard of Thompson? can’t find much online.
A cervelo P3
Reputable seller I think. Wondered about value of wheel set?
A 2021 canyon Speedmax CF8 disc.
Wants $5,900, seems pricy when $6550 (although not in stock) new (with power meter).
Tried to buy for $5,000 which was a firm no, reckons hes getting back into tri and doesnt need to sell.
Imagine the biggest difference will be what I can get the best fit on, but open to thoughts.
