It’s not so much that they are there. It generates big money for the ironman foundation with the ebay slots, etc, and if that goes to charity then great. But the primetime TV airtime is a bit much in the middle of the pro race
Both Brownlees are doing a Q&A at Rutland Cycling in Milton Keynes on Nov 7th so why not come along and ask any questions to the man himself?
Tickets are £5 on Eventbrite
Following-on from the Rant Thread and IMJ: you know you DON’T HAVE TO WATCH the slow finishers and the magic hour, IT’S YOUR CHOICE!
Yeah but if you’ve watched Lionel and Ali finish you may as well stay up a bit longer
I pulled stumps after about 10th finished men’s race and Haug made the pass and it was obvious LCB wouldn’t win. I would have stayed-up had a LCB win been likely.
Got to admit, for the first time ever, I’ve been really inspired by this year’s Kona coverage - most of all the age-group stuff (and Joe Skipper)
Listening to Dan McParland and Tom Rigby this morning on @Rooster’s podcast was great stuff.
(think they’re clubmates of @Chriswim ? What are they putting in the water up there )
Dan’s interview was really good, his passion and enthusiasm for the sport really came out. We were clubmates for a few years, he’s a good guy (and fast!)
just about to start listening as yes, they’re the two we were tracking. I’ve only met Tom twice quickly, both after IMUK and never trained together. Dan I’ve shared about 4 weekend club rides with but think they do a lot of training together. Think Kona was Toms last ironman but I’d love to train with them next season if they do continue!
A huge amount of goodwill in the club for them both too from everyone who knows them is lovely to see.
What’s the podcast called?
Great interview with Skipper. The yawns made it perfect!
Doesn’t look like Ventum’s sponsorship of the race got them many sales, think the bike count only had them at 43 or something.
Jeff
$2850 for a frameset isn’t so bad, Inthink the $12,000 tag bandied around for their bikes is what puts people off though
You think they would have shown one of their pro athletes riding one for a bit? Maybe Lauren Brandon, have her on screen for ages for no apparent reason other than her Ventum
Why are there no longer bikes like Jürgen Zacks softride from the 1990s? Are beam bikes still allowed in Ironman?
That was a lovely bit of kit
Yep
P5x
P3x
Ceepo shadow R
Reap
Diamond…/? All make crazy looking and sometimes crazy expensive Beam thingys
Wasn’t this a thing of beauty though? I’d forgotten about the p3x etc, didn’t see many on Saturday night?
My mate had the zipp thing… 2001? i think it was called, quite aero too, not good on bumps but we were riding 19mm tyres with huge pressures in those days.
True i think i only saw one age grouper on a beam on the coverage on Saturday.
Good old @Toyota_Crown had/has one of them
