JB will win loads of 70.3’s, no doubt. Maybe the odd Superleague race too but prob time to step up. He is a bit more robust than Ali so may have a decent few Kona shots in him

Yeah i should’ve phrased my question a bit better. I have no doubt he’ll pick off some 70.3s, but wonder whether that’ll translate into any big wins. I really do hope so

I’ve a feeling JB might have a successful long course career - the things that made him ‘weaker’ at Olympic level (see his supposed comment to AB in Rio about slowing down when they got clear so as not to risk blowing up in the heat) might well be a big strength over the longer distances. He looks a more solid runner, I reckon he’s got a good marathon time in him.

JB just seems to have lost something. AB used to say he was the better man on the training paddock; I thought he might step up once AB was doing long course and he could race without the dominating influence of his older brother but the exact opposite happened.

He may perk up a bit whilst AB and he are back in ITU and aiming for Tokyo but longer term he is going to have to find his way in 70.3 without AB setting up race scenarios for him to get podiums.

I really hope so. I think you might be right, when he gets his head around doing his race, he could be excellent. IME he’s lovely bloke.

I thought he had found it again when he won the Super League race last year. He looked on fire all weekend. Maybe not though, who knows if he was in for a decent season or not?

He’s a good bet for a podium or top 5, but I can’t see how he can win. He’s front pack in all 3 disciplines, but not quickest in any of them any more, so somehow needs the perfect bike break that doesn’t have Luis, Blummenfelt, Mola or Murray in it.

On a brighter note, another year of development for Yee could put the cat among the pigeons

Didn’t really know where to put this, but the PTO champs in Daytona are hotting up with a very tasty start list on men and women’s sides!

Looks like it’s 2km, 80km, 18km.

Doesn’t it just!

The MX Endurance guys were heavily plugging it earlier, and I was entirely taken in!

Any idea if we can watch it?

I hope so. Be a massive missed opportunity if they can’t distribute it.

Get Macca involved!

I see Vincent Luis has got a wildcard. Is this his first event above standard distance? Given the mark Blumm and Iden have made on stepping up (70.3WR from the former, 70.3WC from the latter), it will be intriguing to see how he does at the longer distances given how dominant he has become from short superleague all the way up to ITU distances

One of the most significant triathlons for a good long time, not just because of Covid but because the PTO have such an opportunity to showcase what they can actually do. Looking forward to it!

Is there a full start list anywhere. Event looks really interesting with some of the names rocking up. Might be full blooded as well with the £££ on offer in a very lean year for pros.

You’re right. Not easy to find.

Thanks @stenard top work digging that out.

I guess we’ll have to see who actually rocks up on the day but stacked field and some really interesting left fielders.

Kind of like Kona in the 80/90s when they invited short course stars. Really does look like a very interesting field. My money would be on the Std or Half distance specialists.

Yeah one of last year’s wc podium will deffo be up there I’d say. Blum will go well, don’t know about Luis over the half distance.

Is the Johnny’s first half? I always thought he’d suit longer distances. Guess we’ll see. Frodo and Kienle both coming out of injuries aren’t they?

Quite fancy Duffy on the female side. Though I’m not so up on the half distance. Haven’t seen/heard how Ryf, Charles, Lawrence et Al have been getting on this year. Someone like Learmonth could go very well as well.

Dunno. But who gets injured in a season with no racing?
